December 2023:
December can be a mixed time for auction houses. In one hand you have people wanting to spend money to buy Christmas presents, so prices can increase. But on the other hand you potentially have less vendors and items coming through the door, as people prepare to wind down for holidays over the Christmas period. But overall it was a good month for us with a fair few good auctions.
Chorley Auction House:
Our best selling item in December was a Gold bracelet, the price of Gold can fluctuate but must have been high at certain points in December. Either that or somebody is buying an extravagant Christmas present. On top of this we had our annual Charity auction, which was held online this year, but still always raises good money for a variety of local charities and good causes. The highest selling item in the charity auction was a Large Bronze Bust of Reverend Canon Samuel, which got a hammer price of £190. So a big thank you to whoever bought this striking item, and we're looking forward to making the next charity auction bigger and better, as we do with everything here at Chorley Auction House.
Taylor and Sconce:
Taylor and Sconce's quarterly antiques sales have taken a back seat, mostly balancing items with the weekly auction and acquiring items for the antiques auction is difficult. But we're hoping in the future to be able to run them quarterly as promised to give customers a good alternative to the weekly auction.
Imperial Auction Services:
Imperial is back in action, with a specialist sale every two weeks now. So be prepared for more auctions in the future, in many areas. Mostly focusing on coins, notes and stamps at the moment but will expand into other areas as and when we can acquire the items.
Packit&Go:
We're hoping to increase marketing for Packit&Go this year, with gradually more emphasis being out on acquiring items through house clearances. But this shouldn't stop people from coming in with items, we're always happy to look and book in items for you. All that will change is the reliance on getting our items that way, so hopefully more house clearances next year and growing this side of the business. The quote from Mark for this month is "As busy as Father Christmas", Mark is always busy so he's definitely busier than Father Christmas. And from the compliments we get of his packing he would have better Google reviews than Father Christmas too.
